    These instructions are shown based on installing the Certificate onto an Apple MacOS v10.12 (Sierra) based computer but are very similar for most macOS versions.

  • Click on the “Download Certificate” option from the Wifi Portal landing page and download the file onto a folder on your computer;
  • From the Finder menu, go to Go > Utilities and Launch the “Keychain Access“
  • From this screen click “System” and from the Category panel, click Certificates (as shown below)
  • Certificate Install
  • Create a new keychain by clicking the [ + ] at the bottom of the Keychain Access window;
  • Navigate to your download directory and select the certificate file you downloaded earlier;
  • Click Open, If prompted, enter your MAC password and click Modify Keychain Access;
  • Double-click the relevant certificate in the list (the one named Smoothwall) and Expand the Trust section;
  • In the When using this certificate drop-down, select “Always Trust” and close the certificate window;
  • When prompted, enter your MAC password to confirm the changes and click Update Settings, then Close the Keychain Access window;
  • Open up your Safari web browser and check that you can browse the Internet (if you are using Mozilla Firefox browser see separate HOWTO for instructions to install the Certificate directly into Firefox).

    These instructions are shown based on installing the Certificate onto a Windows 7 PC but are very similar for a Windows Vista, Windows 8 and Windows 10 based Computer.

  • Click on the “Download Certificate” option from the Wifi Portal landing page;
  • This should open up the following screen where you should click on the “Install Certificate” button and then “Next” button;
  • Certificate Install
  • On some Windows computers you may get another screen asking for a store location, just click “Next”;
  • On the next screen select the “Place all certificates in the following store” option, then click the “Browse” button and select the “Trusted Root Certification Authorities” option (as shown below) and then click the “Next” button;

  • Then click the “Next” and “Finish” buttons and then “Yes” to the Security Warning popup box and then “OK” and then open up your Internet Explorer or Chrome web browser and check that you can browse the Internet (if you are using Mozilla Firefox browser see separate HOWTO for instructions to install the Certificate directly into Firefox)
  • Apple iOS

  • These instructions are shown based on installing the Certificate onto an Apple iPad running iOS version 10.2 but should be very similar on most iOS based devices
  • Click the “Download Certificate” option from the Portal landing page
  • This should open up the following screen where you should select the “Install” option (as shown below) and this may then popup a further “Install Profile” option, if so click “Install”

  • This should install the Certificate onto your device and popup the following to confirm the process is complete, click the “Done” option in the top right hand corner (as shown below)

    Microsoft Windows Mobile

    These instructions are shown based on installing the Certificate onto a Microsoft Windows Phone version 10 OS but should be very similar on most Windows Phone devices

  • Click the “Download Certificate” option from the Portal landing page
  • This should open up a screen similar to the following where you should click the “Install” option;
  • Certificate Name
  • This should install the Certificate onto your device and then need to click “OK”
  • Open up your devices web browser and check that you can browse the Internet.
  • Android

    These instructions are shown based on installing the Certificate onto an Android Galaxy S7 Edge running Android version 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) but should be very similar on most Android devices

  • Click the “Download Certificate” option from the Portal landing page
  • This should open up the following screen where you should give the Certification a name, such as “EC” and note the default setting for “Credential use” as “VPN and apps” which is correct and then select the “OK” option;
  • Certificate Name
  • This should install the Certificate onto your device, some devices may then show the following popup which is normal, you can click on the “Check Trusted Credentials” to review details of the security certificate;
  • Check Credentials
  • Open up your web browser on your device and check that you can browse the Internet.
  • Firefox

    Mozilla Firefox uses its own internal Certificate source, independent of the central one on your computer, in which case you will need to download the certificate file to your computer and then apply the certificate file into Firefox using the following instructions:

  • Download the Certificate File from the Portal landing page to a location on your computer;
  • Open Mozilla Firefox and click on the “Tools”, “Options” menu options OR click the three lined icon on the right hand side of the Firefox Toolbar (shown below) and select the “Options” icon:
  • Certificate Name
  • Next, click on the “Advanced” left toolbar menu option and then the “Certificates” option shown on the right of that screen (indicated below) and click the “View Certificates” button;
  • Certificate Name
  • On the next screen click the “Authorities” tab (shown below) and then the “Import” button (indicated below) and then browse and select your previously saved certificate file, click OK and then tick the “Trust this CA to identify websites” option (on the popup screen shown below) and then click OK twice and close and re-open Firefox.
