Girls’ five-a-side football tournament

The girls had great fun getting stuck into 5-a-side football in this year’s Girls’ 5-a-side tournament, that took place at Beau Sejour.

We entered two teams to play against Amherst, Castel, Forest, Hautes Capelles, La Mare de Carteret, Notre Dame, St Martin’s, Vale and Vauvert. Each team had six very fast and exciting 5 minute games.

Beechwood 1 appeared to face some stronger competition and found it difficult to score any goals. Beechwood 2 got off to a strong start with a quick goal by Courtney Pipe. After this win, a draw and three more confident wins, with Emily and Poppy also contributing to the score sheet, we were in a good position to win the group tournament. However, our last match saw us lose 1-0 to La Mare de Carteret, meaning that we came joint second with Vale.

It was a fantastic experience for our girls who did brilliantly, despite not having much practice at the game.

Well done girls, and thank you to the parents for supporting us from the balcony!

Thanks must also go to Mr Sargent, as Secretary of Guernsey Junior Schools’ Football Association, for organising the tournament.
