Elizabeth College CCF
The Combined Cadet Force has been a great source of pride to the College since it was founded in 1902. Membership is optional and open to all students in Year 10 and above; Year 9 students get a 10-week taster of CCF during their Friday afternoon activities. Cadets choose to serve in the Royal Navy, Army or RAF Sections. The CCF offers cadets a chance to develop leadership skills, engage in a variety of challenging pursuits and enjoy a special sense of team spirit and camaraderie. The CCF forms the official Guard of Honour at many Island parades and functions.
The Royal Navy Section runs activities afloat, including raft building, sailing and power boating using the Guernsey Sailing Trust facilities. Cadets have the opportunity to gain RYA Level 2 or higher awards and also get the opportunity to attend MOD run and funded sailing competitions, RYA recognised courses and leadership courses in the UK.
All Army cadets complete field craft and self-reliance exercises and may use these towards their DoE Award if they are registered. Cadets have the opportunity to learn to fire the full-bore and small-bore target rifles. The best shooters have the opportunity to attend the annual Schools’ Competition at Bisley in July and other competitions during the year. All cadets can attend Adventure Training, local expeditions and MOD run military themed competitions in the UK. The Cadets continue with field craft training and exercises including blank firing exercises and section attacks using the L98 cadet rifle.
The Royal Air Force section train for their Part One and Two exams and use the RAF flying schools and RAF bases in the UK for Air Experience Flying. Cadets also get the chance to attend RAF central camps where further air experience can be gained on powered trainers such as the Grob Trainer. Cadets also have access to the full-size flight simulator housed in school.
The CCF has a small Corps of Drums which lead CCF parades as well as the annual Island Remembrance Parade; they also perform at the annual Combined Services Dinner in November.
Cadets are encouraged and supported in attending some of the many camps and courses run by the MOD (at very little cost to the individual) designed to further their resilience and personal development.
