Established for more than ten years, the Elizabeth College Foundation has had an enormous impact on the availability and quality of the facilities of the Elizabeth College Upper School and Junior School.
The image above illustrates the major capital projects which have been made possible by individuals making donations to the Foundation. Click here for an interactive version of the Foundation’s achievements.
450th Anniversary Appeal: Thanks to donations from parents, OEs and other supporters of the College, the 450th Anniversary Appeal raised sufficient funds to complete all of the phase 1 to 3 projects. A copy of the Appeal Roll of Honour, listing all donors and containing images of the projects is available to view here (note: link to an external website). The main projects enabled by donors’ generosity are:
The FG Manchester Refectory has been created in a new storey on top of what was the Geography block, or the old gym as many people know it. Open since Easter 2013, it provides a hot meal service to all Upper School pupils at lunchtime and break.
A new Early Years Foundation Stage classroom has been constructed and in full use since September 2013. It is designed to support the Early Years Curriculum which encompasses both indoor and outdoor learning. The success of the flourishing Pre-School and Pre-Prep departments at Acorn House means that space is always in demand and the new configuration has made a huge difference.
A new Performing Arts Studio has been created in the ground floor of the Colborne building. This provides a flexible space incorporating a sizeable performance area with roll-out tiered seating. Music and drama have long been strengths of the College and are becoming increasingly popular so these fabulous facilities are particularly well used.
An extension to the Maths department was completed during the summer of 2014 and now provides six purpose-built classrooms; crucial additional space to a subject area which is becoming increasingly popular at A level.
In addition to these major capital projects, a number of smaller projects have been funded by the Elizabeth College Foundation:
enhancements to the College’s ICT provision for Maths and computing teaching
installation of state of the art Fencing scoring equipment in the College Sport Hall
internal refurbishment of the beautiful historic College Field pavilion
the Roy Honey Digital Archive project – an accessible digital archive of the College’s records including the Elizabethan Magazine, whole school and sports photos. The archive was launched in 2017 and is available here.
