Beechwood Pupils celebrate their Rights

Elizabeth College Junior School at Beechwood are delighted they have achieved Bronze level on UNICEF ‘s Rights Respecting Schools programme – which aims to teach children what rights they have in the classroom, and help them use that knowledge to gain a better education.

The Award recognises the school’s achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into practice within the school and beyond.

The School Council is helping to lead the school community to discover how this programme relates to and supports the school’s own aims of ‘aim high, be kind, be brave’.

Council’s Chairman, Albert W, said they had enjoyed learning more about their rights. “Before taking part in this programme, I didn’t know what they were. I had not known that we had them, but we’ve learnt a lot and we can now use that knowledge to gain a better education.”
