ECJS Beechwood Hockey Report

Wednesday 2nd December – The Ladies’ College

“Just hours before the game, Remi Guezo volunteered to fill the vacant goalkeeper’s shirt.”

The Senior Hockey teams had differing starts to their competitive fixtures. After several weeks of the training, they were ready the pit their skills against The Ladies’ College year 7/8. The windy and bitterly cold conditions didn’t deter the children. Both teams played two fixtures, one against each of the College’s sides. Each game lasted 20 minutes.

The As started superbly, moving the ball quickly and putting their opponents under pressure. This soon told, with the As taking lead early in the game. The clinical finishing throughout, was the biggest difference between the sides. Goals were scored by: Louis de Putron, Jake Swaisland (2), Peter Heyworth (2) and captain Toby Storer (2). When called upon, goalkeeper Ronny Hallett made a couple of crucial saves and was rewarded with a clean sheet. Their second fixture was a much closer affair, with both sides sharing possession. Again, the superior finishing of the As, made a big difference. Storer, Heyworth and de Putron were again on the score sheet in a 3-0 win.

Just hours before the game, Remi Guezo volunteered to fill the vacant goalkeeper’s shirt. The leg guards were HUGE on Remi, but during both games he made several great saves. Despite his best efforts, the Bs fell to a 4-0 defeat against the strongest of the College’s sides. Their target was to improve during their second fixture. They played with great determination, with Ashton Pleasant never stopping and putting the College under pressure when in possession. Emily Griggs made several great runs with the ball, creating chances for her side. Even though they lost 2-0, they achieved their target. During several phases of play they moved the ball swiftly between themselves, with just the end product missing.

Wednesday 9th December – The Ladies’ College

Our scorers were: Louis de Putron, Jake Swaisland, Katrina Guilbert, Peter Heyworth (2) and Toby Storer (2). The Bs narrowly lost 1-0. The game was close throughout and again, the Bs created chances to draw level. It was a big improvement on last week’s game and the children can take forward what they have learnt into future fixtures.

Guernsey Hockey – Year 5 Indoor Hockey Tournament

On Thursday, the Year 5 Hockey Team played in the inaugural Guernsey Hockey Indoor Tournament held at ICG. They played matches against Vale, Blanchelande and La Mare de Carteret. Teams were 4-a-side and with the limited space, matches proved to be fast and furious!

The team improved throughout the tournament and only succumbed to defeat against LMDC 1s in their final game, winning all other matches convincingly. The team moved the ball quickly and tackled their opponents with great ferocity! All the children can take positives away from the game and will have learnt how they can progress.

Well done Year 5!
