Elizabeth College vs Victoria rugby match report

24 Victoria College  – Elizabeth College 3.

As always the score line does not do justice to the boys’ efforts. The match started superbly well for us with one way traffic for about 15mins. The College boys were clinical and aggressive leaving Victoria a little stunned and making a lot of unforced errors. College was awarded two penalties and the boys scored a try. Sadly only one of the penalties was kicked successfully and the try was disallowed. Victoria soon woke up and clicked into gear scoring two quick tries that were not converted. By the end of the first half another converted try pushed the score to 17 – 3. The second half saw our boys click back into gear and really push Victoria to work hard to make inroads. Our forwards led by Dominic Rice and Fraser Wilkes worked tireless against a tricky referee to secure ball or slow the ball down for the opposition. Victoria scored a further try that was not converted and College also scored a try through Dominic Rice’s efforts that was sadly disallowed. Final score 24 – 3.

The Year 11 boys in the team stepped up on the day and we were very proud of their performance against what was a bigger and older team. Our younger boys played with real effort and determination showing many attributes that they often hide away at school! As a result of their endeavours our man of the match was Alex King. Thank you to Steve Melbourne at the Guernsey Rugby Academy for help preparing the team.
