Making Waves

The Invasion of the Wavelets, written by Magnus Buchanan and illustrated by Charlie Buchanan, who are both teachers at Elizabeth College, is being launched this evening and an exhibition of art inspired by the book will be open to the public at the Market Inner Street and Guille-Alles Library until the 22 December 2018.

The exhibition includes all 17 original watercolour paintings from the book, as well as paintings and work by children who were inspired by the story. Organised in collaboration with the Guernsey Youth Commission, Charlie held eight workshops at The Caves for children aged Years 4 to 9 where they made shadow puppets inspired by the book. Art for Guernsey made a film of the children’s shadow puppet show and also the making of the book, which will play at the exhibition.

The story is an original Guernsey folktale mined from the glorious folklore recorded by Marie de Garis.
