Elizabeth College Guernsey
Elizabeth College, founded in 1563, is a selective day school located in St Peter Port, Guernsey.
Yesterday, Rev. Graysmith’s Year 8 PSHE class had a fantastic session with Helen from St John Ambulance. She taught them what to do if they came across a casualty—how to check if they’re unconscious, assess their breathing, clear blocked airways, and put them in the recovery position.
Well done to Nathan, Sophia, and Celeste for stepping up as volunteer patients and first aiders. Their enthusiasm helped bring the lesson to life.
Huge thanks to Helen and St John Ambulance for sharing these vital skills—knowing what to do in an emergency could save a life!

Well done to Year 8 student Herbie who has recently established a Guernsey Junior Fishing League. With competitions almost every weekend it is open to anyone under the age of 16, but under 12s must fish with an adult. Following excellent coverage from the Guernsey Press Herbie’s fishing league has caught on way beyond expectations!
Congratulations to Year 13 Student Jack who was named FNB Men’s Champion over the weekend with a race to spare! Jack’s hard work and dedication is shining on the cross country trails!
Congratulations also go to Year 12 student Toby on his incredible victory at the British Schools Regional Judo Tournament! Toby’s hard work and dedication have earned him a well-deserved spot in the prestigious British Schools Finals.

During PHSE lessons last week Year 7 students participated in a First Aid session with the St John Ambulance.
Looking at common scenarios (including choking, cuts and burns) the session was designed to help them remain calm and know some of the initial steps that can be taken in an emergency.

Last week it was a pleasure to welcome Steve Eadon founder of Mingalaba to Elizabeth College for a full day with our languages department working with students including sessions on French, German and Spanish.
Mingalaba’s aim is to use the global appeal of football to teach and promote languages and follows on from Steve’s time in the community outreach team at Arsenal FC, leading the award-winning ‘Arsenal Double Club’ modern languages project. During assembly Steve spoke about how languages have unlocked so many different opportunities for him, and how languages can open up exciting careers in a huge amount of sectors.
It was a very interesting day, especially the training session at College Field held in Spanish! Thank you to Steve for his time and enthusiasm.

It was great to welcome Liz Potter to assembly this week to show the children the digital portrait that was created following their part in the ‘One Brush Stroke Project’.
The community project gave every islander the opportunity to add one brush stroke to a digital canvas on an iPad, to make up a piece of artwork, created for, and by, the people of Guernsey. Every child at ECJS contributed to our very own Guernsey Goat!
The project saw 13 paintings created, each depicting an aspect of island life, with the unique twist of having been digitally painted in an array of colours by thousands of different people, who added their own brushstroke to the project.
James from Year 5 and Art Prefect Jesse thanked artist Liz Potter when she visited on Thursday.

What a brilliant night celebrating incredible sporting achievements, both in team sports and individual performances at last night’s Elizabeth College Sports Awards. Huge congratulations go to all the nominated teams, individual athletes, staff and OEs for their efforts and achievements from netball, football, rugby and cricket to shooting, golf, sailing and horse riding.
Thank you to our guest speaker, Steve Eadon founder of Mingalaba. Steve is a linguist who worked at Arsenal Football Club for 11 years managing the award-winning ‘Arsenal Double Club’ modern languages project, which used Arsenal and football to inspire young people to learn a language. It was wonderful to have him at the awards and in College all day on Thursday.
Thanks also to the representatives from the OEA Committee, Simon de la Rue and Tony Curr, and former Elizabeth College teacher, David Wray, for presenting the awards. Well done to our wonderful Sports Faculty, it was a fantastic evening.
