Elizabeth College News

Elizabeth College Guernsey
Elizabeth College, founded in 1563, is a selective day school located in St Peter Port, Guernsey.

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the College’s return from exile we will be hosting an exhibition in College Hall on Saturday 3rd May from 10am to 12noon. The exhibition will showcase a selection of memorabilia, personal journal extracts, vintage issues of The Elizabethan Magazine, and a collection of photographs from the period, all drawn from the College archives. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy looking at these rarely seen artefacts from this poignant time in the College’s history.
We look forward to seeing you there.

6th Form Further Training
Further training opportunities are an exciting and valuable option for several of our Sixth Form students as they look beyond A Levels and begin shaping their futures.
Braden, having made the most of everything offered through the Elizabeth College CCF, and after completing a successful tenure as a Lieutenant-Governor’s Cadet, is considering continuing that journey by pursuing a career with the Royal Marines. His leadership, discipline, and dedication make him well-suited to this challenging and prestigious path.
Meanwhile, Ollie and Tom are both aiming high - quite literally - as they explore professional pilot training. Both students are looking into attending Skyborne Airline Academy in Gloucestershire, a leading aviation training provider, as the first step toward fulfilling their ambitions of becoming commercial airline pilots.
These students exemplify the drive, focus, and sense of adventure that Elizabeth College encourages and we’re proud to support them as they take the next steps toward their specialist careers.

What an egg-cellent start to the Easter break!
On the last day of the Lent Term the children in Reception to Year 2 enjoyed a brilliant morning hunting around for chicks, carrots and eggs to swap for a real chocolate egg from the Friends of ECJS!
It was a lovely morning popping bubbles in the sunshine and planting more than 200 sunflower seeds for the children to plant in the school grounds after the holidays. The children were also surprised by someone very special… Can you guess who?
Thank you to all staff and adult helpers who made it possible.

6th Form Gap Year Experiences
Taking a gap year is another opportunity being considered by some of our 6th form students after their A Level exams, embracing the opportunity to travel, volunteer, and gain experience before continuing their studies or starting their careers.
This year, Charlotte and Harry are planning to go Kenya, where they’ll volunteer with a local charity gaining meaningful life experience while making a difference. Will and Ollie are combining work and travel by completing a ski season abroad, developing independence and practical skills in a unique setting.
Gap years offer students the chance to explore new cultures, grow personally, and gain valuable insights that shape their future. We admire their ambition, curiosity, and courage, and look forward to hearing all about their adventures.

Last night’s Elizabethan Concert was a fantastic way to round off the term, celebrating the wonderful musical talent of students from Years 3 to 13.
It was a particularly poignant evening for our Year 13 performers, as it marked their final appearance in the Elizabeth College music calendar before they head into their exams next month.
The concert featured an impressive variety of musical styles and genres - from the ECJS Performance Choir’s energetic rendition of Revolting Children from Matilda, to the College Orchestra’s rousing performance of Johann Strauss’s Radetzky March, ECDC’s cover of Sweet Child of Mine, and the Soul Band’s version of James Brown’s I Got You (I Feel Good).
Year 13 students Sam and Alex delivered solo performances that both moved and wowed the full-house audience.
Congratulations to everyone who took part, led ensembles, or helped organise the evening - it was a magnificent celebration of music.

6th Form Working and Studying Abroad
This year, some of our Sixth Form students are exploring exciting opportunities abroad, including sporting scholarships and international university studies.
Conor aims to head out to the US to study and play golf for 4 years at St Thomas Aquinas College in New York. He has already proven his pedigree on Guernsey and UK greens and will now look to improve his game even further under the coaching of Stephen Ferrara.
With offers from all his UK university applications to study Marketing, Hugo also has options pending in the Netherlands, which would allow him to embrace a new culture and academic system.
Studying abroad offers the opportunity to gain a global perspective, enhance language skills, and experience unique academic and cultural environments. It also fosters personal growth, independence, and valuable career advantages by building a diverse network and expanding global awareness.

Year 10 students enjoyed a fascinating Q & A session with Ross Allen, Guernsey’s leading ever goalscorer and Elizabeth College’s reading patron.
Ross spoke about his successes and challenges as a player, his memories of College, and how he maintains his reading habit alongside his busy schedule. Among Ross’ recommended reads are Colin Iggulden, Stephen King and Haruki Murakami.
With thanks to students Ines Silva-Rocha and Seb Steer for the courage to act as interviewers, and for the many students for their curiosity in asking some excellent questions.
