The Elizabeth College Maths Roadshow recently stopped off at Castel Primary School. It was a brilliant morning of collaboration, well done to all the students for their enthusiasm!
The morning was helped enormously by the assistance of Year 9 students from Elizabeth College who worked with the Year 6 children as they puzzled and problem solved their way round the various mathematical challenges.
The Year 9 students, having fairly recently left primary school themselves, encouraged the children to see how mathematical thinking is about more than factual knowledge and right or wrong answers to calculations. It was a particularly enjoyable morning for Isaac Eyton-Jones and and Danny Lewis-Gallienne who were pleased to return to their old school and tell their former teachers all about life at College.
The Roadshow is a great opportunity for our Mathematics Department to work with primary schools on island, and deliver a morning of brain teasers for the children to flex their mathematical knowledge. It is also a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to develop new skills, including leadership and motivation.
Elizabeth College is committed to finding new ways to collaborate with primary schools on Guernsey and explore interesting and stretching topics for their pupils to enjoy.
Next stop on the Roadshow is Notre Dame du Rosaire for a Victor Hugo writing workshop!
