Upland Building
With the College expanding rapidly in the 1950s, even with the Junior Department relocated to Beechwood (a former nursing home in Queen’s Road), classroom accommodation was at a premium. It was good fortune from the College’s point of view that the ‘Grange Club’ in Upland Road was in financial difficulties and forced to sell its fairly large premises. The States bought the building for the College and it came into use in 1950 - classrooms for sixth form work, including an art and geography room and a library. It was known as the Library Block until the library was later established elsewhere and subsequently became known simply as ‘Upland’. A fine stained glass window in the former library, depicting the Tudor Rose and coats of arms, was presented by Miss de Putron in 1963.
