Registration & Entry

Ph_6_Library_0014The principal ages for admission into Elizabeth College Upper School are 11 and 16. However, there are sometimes vacancies for entry at other ages. Candidates for entry at age 11 (Year 7) sit an entrance test held in early March prior to entry in September. The entrance test comprises papers in English and Mathematics plus an age-standardised NFER test.

Entry into the Sixth Form, at 16, is based upon GCSE results. Candidates are required to gain a minimum of five C grades, but usually have superior GCSE grades in the subjects they intend to follow at AS level. If you are considering Sixth Form entry please contact College before the receipt of GCSE results to discuss available subject choices.

Entry to Elizabeth College at other ages is by tests adapted to the candidate’s age and/or by interviews with senior Elizabeth College staff. A registration form, prospectus and further information about entrance procedures are available from the Principal’s PA.

Parents and prospective pupils are encouraged to visit Elizabeth College prior to making an application.

The College Open Day is usually held on the morning of the first Saturday in October. However, parents and prospective pupils are welcome to tour College at any time and if you wish to do so please contact the Principal’s PA to arrange an appointment (see Contact Us section for details).

Registration and College Entrance

We recommend that all prospective pupils are registered for entry as early as possible.

Each pupil’s application is considered very carefully and when registrations exceed available places, applications will be considered in the order laid down in the College Terms and Conditions which can be found below.

If you wish to register your son to take our entrance test for entry at Year 7, please complete the Registration Form and return it to the College office at Elizabeth College together with a non-refundable cheque for £110.00, payable to Elizabeth College. This fee is used to cover the administrative costs incurred during the registration and entry process.

In the Lent Term of your son’s year of entry we will write to you asking for confirmation that you still wish your son to take the Elizabeth College entrance test and requesting your permission to obtain a report from his present Head Teacher.

Please contact the Principal’s PA for information about future opportunities to sit the assessments for entry to Year 7 in September 2017

The test will take place at Elizabeth College from 8.45am to approximately 12.30pm.  Please contact the Principal’s PA if you wish your son to take the test for September 2017 entry.

If you have any further questions or would like to arrange to speak to the Principal please do not hesitate to contact: Mrs Sandra Beaton, the Principal’s PA Tel: (01481) 726544 or Email:

Offers of places are subject to the admission requirements of the school, which are currently laid down in our terms and conditions which can be found here: Terms and Conditions  and further information is available here: Registration FAQs

Open Day is an ideal opportunity to see inside Elizabeth College.

Junior School Entry

There is a separate registration process for entry to our Pre-School and entry to any year of the Junior School.

For Pre-School, parents are advised to complete the registration form as soon as is practicable, as there is strong competition to gain places in our thriving Pre-School. The registration form should be completed and sent with the registration fee to the Pre-School Secretary, based at Acorn House.

Places are offered to parents in the previous Michaelmas Term for the forthcoming year. It is at this time that the days requested by parents are finalised.

Junior School

Ph_js_gen_201418Early registration for entry to the Junior School is advisable. Parents should complete the Registration Form and send this with the registration fee to the Headteachers’ Secretary at ECJS Beechwood. Children are then placed on the waiting list for entry for the respective year of entry.

Places for Reception are offered in a prescribed order; these can be found in our Terms and Conditions, but children who attend our Pre-School and who have siblings in the Junior School are given priority.

Children entering Years 1 to 6 are required to spend a morning in School where they will be assessed for entry. There are few vacancies in these year groups and places offered are dependent on the assessments carried out within school. For families moving to the island, arrangement may be made with their child’s current school, for assessments to be carried out in situ.
