The entrance assessment for entry to Year 7 in September 2021 will be held on Saturday 14 November 2020 from 08.45am to 11.45am. You are encouraged to register your son or daughter at an early opportunity – please see the Registration section below.
Subject to availability of places, a second sitting of the entrance assessment for entry to Year 7 each September is held during Lent Term.
The typical ages for admission into Elizabeth College Upper School are 11 and 16. However, there are sometimes vacancies for entry at other ages.
Candidates for entry at age 11 (Year 7) sit an entrance assessment in Year 6 prior to entry in the following September. The assessment takes the form of a suite of online tests that assess a candidate’s reasoning (thinking) abilities in four key areas of educational development and academic attainment: verbal, non-verbal, numerical and spatial. These tests provide a standardised measure of cognitive reasoning ability, without reference to curriculum-based material and regardless of previous achievements, with the basic aim of ensuring candidates will be able to cope with the College’s curriculum. It should be noted that there is no expectation that candidates will revise or prepare specifically for the assessment.
Entry into the Sixth Form, at 16, is based upon GCSE results. Candidates are required to gain a minimum of five passes at grade 4 or above including Maths and English, but usually are expected to have superior GCSE grades (grade 6) in the subjects they intend to study in the Sixth Form. If you are considering Sixth Form entry please contact College before the receipt of GCSE results to discuss available subject choices.
Entry to Elizabeth College at other ages is by tests adapted to the candidate’s age and/or by interviews with senior Elizabeth College staff. A registration form, prospectus and further information about entrance procedures are available on this site or from the Principal’s PA.
We recommend that all prospective pupils are registered for entry as early as possible.
If you wish to register your child to take our entrance assessment for entry at Year 7, please complete the Registration Form and return it to the College office at Elizabeth College together with a non-refundable cheque for £110.00, payable to Elizabeth College. Applications for girls to take our entrance assessment for entry at Year 7 in September 2021 are now also being accepted.
In the Michaelmas Term preceding your child’s year of entry we will write to you asking for confirmation that you still wish your child to take the Elizabeth College entrance assessment and requesting your permission to obtain a report from his present Head Teacher.
